Dude in a 328i proved this to be true on Saturday, as he cut me off, sped ahead 4 car lengths to cut someone else off to the left of that, then cut off 3 people to get back over to the left lane only to be stuck in the normal traffic from the 405 to the 101 interchange.  Not once was a signal necessary.
